Celebrating the legacy of legendary South Asian singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan on the twentieth anniversary of his death, artist Tasawar Bashir, The Qawwali Research Unit and BEAST have transformed Khan’s recordings into hypnotic astral soundscapes, transporting listeners to the Barzakh, Interspace. Join us to experience these compositions and learn about the history of Qawwali.

Lori Lullabies Family Sessions

Pop along on our journey in which we explore sounds of the sea, the jungle and more with South Asian lullabies and movement!

“pitter patter ….. cheep buzz! …..  whoosh ….. we are going on a creative safari! “

Come along and join in at one of our toddler and family sessions exploring traditional Lori lullabies through sound and movement, combining Eastern and Western traditions in a fun and lively environment.

The workshop will be delivered by dance artist Magdalen Gorringe and sound artist Emma Margetson and is suitable for early years and parents to take part in together.

Presented in association with KLANG! électroacoustique, BEAST delivers a diverse programme of recent electroacoustic work showcasing highlights of the Klang! électroacoustique 2017 festival alongside new work from BEAST composers. Performances tailored to the unique, immersive setting of the BEAST Dome will project sound over the 32 loudspeakers surrounding the audience.

The programme includes Remembering Japan by Hans Tutshcku (winner of the 2017 Klang! électroacoustique composition competition), Phoenix XXI by electroacoustic pioneer Francis Dhomont and Bloom by recent graduate Martyn Fisk (winner of the 2017 Compass prize).

BEAST joins forces with Delia Derbyshire Day to celebrate the pioneering electronic artist in what would have been her 80th year. This Delia-inspired programme includes: Audient My Dear by Caro C – A creative response to the Delia Derbyshire (DD) Archive for voice, electronics, ping pong ball and ruler; David Butler (audio) & Andrea Pazo‘s (video) audio visual collage Marvellous Encounters (Of My Life) with sounds from the DD archive and Delia inspired visuals; specially composed works from BEAST composers celebrating the work of Delia Derbyshire.

6.30pm Screening
Join us before the concert for a special screening of The Delian Mode by Kara Blake –  an award winning creative documentary about Delia Derbyshire.
